Laughin at the Library
Saturday morning at the DuPont Library. We had a great time sharing laughs and talking about my book, No Assembly Required. We talked about the fact that everyone needs to build their own laugh collection of material they can depend upon to make them laugh. We know that Dr. Norman Cousins wrote in the Healing Power of Humor that he watched The Three Stooges and Abbot and … [Read more...] about Laughin at the Library
Tai Chi Chump
I have a history of falls in unusual places. I’ve fallen going upstairs. I’ve fallen going downstairs. I’ve fallen just standing around. Once I fell into the Dairy Case at the supermarket, displacing several gallons of milk and completely demolishing 13 gallons of ice cream. I’ve accepted these unexpected spills as a fact of my life but when I spent a recent holiday in the … [Read more...] about Tai Chi Chump
Happy Birthday, Barbie!
Today is Barbie's birthday and brings back memories because when Barbie debuted fifty four years ago today, every little girl in America wanted one. Everyone knew her, and her zebra striped bathing suit was iconic. My daughter was facing a tonsillectomy and yearned for a Barbie doll. I promised her one, and then found that there were none to be found anywhere. I … [Read more...] about Happy Birthday, Barbie!
Where I’ll be speaking on April 3
Today I bravely drove to West Seattle to meet the great folks at the Senior Center of West Seattle where I'll be speaking for their annual fundraiser on April 3. What a great place. There's so much going on. They have their own self sustaining cafe with homemade soup everyday and fresh made sandwiches. There was a Bingo game going on but they're famous for their Rainbow … [Read more...] about Where I’ll be speaking on April 3

It’s Praying!!
I wrote in this month's News Tribune about my prayer plant that just wouldn't pray. I was afraid it was an atheist. But John called me from his nursery in Graham, and said that he knew what the trouble was - "It's too wet, he said, and it isn't getting enough sun." I moved the plant, and now it's rolled up very devoutly. If you look closely you can see the little tube all … [Read more...] about It’s Praying!!
Cockeyed Optimist as printed in the Tacoma News Tribune
I didn’t begin to develop signs of altitude sickness until we started the final upward climb to the summit. Breathlessly, I reached my destination, gratefully paid three dollars for a bottle of water, and threw myself down to rest. “No, Mom,” my daughter said, tugging at my arm. “These aren’t our seats. Ours are up one more level.” This year we decided to treat … [Read more...] about Cockeyed Optimist as printed in the Tacoma News Tribune
We’re Baaaaaack!!
I've learned something valuable about blogging. You can't possibly find time to do it over the Christmas holidays. But now Christmas is gone, New Year is past, I've had my birthday. We had winter. It dragged on for a whole week. I thought it would never go away. Here's the view off my back porch. and now Valentine's Day is on the way. What I like about February is that … [Read more...] about We’re Baaaaaack!!
Sure, I Can Answer Your Question! Probably!
I've had several messages today wondering why our posts aren't in order with most recent at the top. I am glad to tell you. The computer is misbehaving and the pages aren't loading properly. So last night I got tired and went off to bed. I think I've gotten it straightened out now. We shall see. I got a message from Peggi Selden Rowe, in our chat about whether we still … [Read more...] about Sure, I Can Answer Your Question! Probably!
