Today my training walk for the Making Strides Against Cancer 5K walk took me to Steilacoom Park and the old Western State Hospital. It was a good day for walking – although the temperature was in the mid-70’s there was no sun.
And luckily not too many people to see struggling along and drenched in persperation in a way my Daddy would have considered most unladylike. The blackberry bushes have been pretty well picked over, but there was an elderly gentleman (which is to say my age) dragging the bushes down with his cane. “Mmmmm, ripe,” he exclaimed. The lake is closed due to toxic algae but there was a lady sitting there keeping her dog safely at her side and idly watching her three year old playing in the water. I stopped to tell her about the closure but she said, “Oh, yes, I’m watching her.” Indeed. But I feel pretty good about my progress today. 2.79 miles on my way to 5K. Last time I looked we were still about $400 short of our goal. If you can help please join us at the link below. Let’s go!
