year. In honor of my daughter in law Laura and my brother Mike who both have birthdays on May 17, I’m declaring this National Make Up A Missed Birthday Day. So if there’s anything you needed to do, any cards you needed to send, any phone calls you need to make, do it now. I’ll wait for you! This would be a good day to bake cookies, or make a quilt. Or make a pencil holder out of an empty toilet paper roll. First you need an empty roll. Go ahead. I’ll wait for you. The important thing is a note, though. Do it on Facebook. No use calling. Nobody answers the phone. And hey, in case I missed your birthday – Happy Birthday! MyFather used to be very hard to buy gifts for. He would look at any item of clothing disdainfully and say, “Why in the Hell would you buy this for me. He never opened them. Luckily, he did like Louis Lamour novels. That was a help. Happy Birthday to you, and let’s celebrate.
May 17 is also Pack Rat Day. This is the day we celebrate the fact that all of the junk we’ve been collecting, those rows and rows of boxes in the garage and in the attic and up and down the stairs are full of things that may be valuable one day. I just can’t stand
to throw perfectly good things away, because you never know when you might need to be able to lay your hands on Uncle Shorty’s championship wrestling belt, and Aunt Vi’s harem outfit. They’re all there in those boxes. Anything you want in life is in one of those boxes. Now, that’s something to celebrate.
