Today, February 25 is Inconvenience Yourself Day and Carnival Day. It’s hard to believe that people will be excited about this day, but Daysoftheyear.com says it really is Inconvenience Yourself Day. As you read this, it looks as if it really is Go Out of Your Way for Someone Else Day. I like that a lot better. I’d like to hear your ideas for celebrating a day where you go out of the way for someone else. Please give me your thoughts. Here’s what Days of the Year says:
You know those days when you just can’t be bothered to get out of bed? Well, Inconvenience Yourself Day is not one of them. So, put on your happy face and go out there and be nice! The concept may have originated from Ms. Julie Thompson and it was meant to serve as an incentive for others to acknowledge their appreciation for acquaintances or strangers and to promote a respectful attitude and an attentive demeanour. We can all celebrate by simply opening a door for an old lady, giving up a seat to a pregnant lady, helping a child cross the street, stopping to ask if a tourist is lost and needs directions, offering to carry a suitcase up the stairs and generally making a small sacrifice. But most of all, we have to reflect on what others need and how we can help. It can make a big difference!
Now as if that’s all not enough, this is also Carnival Day according to Holiday Insights. Now, it’s not like Carnival, the season before Lent. It’s Carnival like cotton candy and The Thin Man and The Fat Lady. A little bit out of fashion these days. My uncles and my Aunt traveled with the carnivals wrestling, in the late ’40’s and early 50’s. My Uncle Jack was a carnival barker – a talker they call it – and he traveled with the carnival to the day he died. He loved the carny and the carny people. When he died, the carnival folks sent a floral arrangement of a huge wheel with a broken spoke, which is how carnival people say “we won’t be able to go on without you.
Heres what Holiday Insights says about Carnival Day:

Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day. We found plenty of carnivals. We found winter carnivals, summer carnivals, school carnivals and much more. We also found many companies with the word “carnival” in their name.
