I’m like Charlie Brown with no mail
While Snoopy carts truckloads away
There should at least be one card bought on sale
For me, it’s a dreadful day
Wasn’t always like this you know
In school the box was packed
With lace and honeycombs; hearts just so
I’ll admit that I never lacked
Dickie Roberts, age just 10, showed his love and joy
With the gift of a cup for my toothbrush
Giraffe shaped (the cup, not the boy).
I carried my valentine home with a blush
My father disapproved, of course, of my 4th grade crush
Dad shouted & swore; the giraffe is no more
For he shattered it in a rush
Old times never come again and,I miss that giraffe of yore
And that’s why – I hate Valentine’s Day
